The coil pots everyone are building are looking great. Here is a picture of another coil pot. It is different than the ones we were making. What do you think this artist did differently to create a piece that looks like this?
I think that they made a normal coil pot, like we are making and then they smoothed out the outside. To make the little spouts coming out, I think they slipped and scored coils onto the sides where they come out and smoothed it like the rest of the pot.
I think the artist made a basic, big coil pot maybe with increasingly and decreasingly coil endings, forming a circle gap in the piece. Then the person added a new bottomless/footless smaller coil pot in that opening. He smoothed the outside of his/her piece. Then pushed a tool into the clay, possibly cheese-hard, in a zig zag pattern/motion. Sophia Period 3
I think the person who made this piece made 3 different coil pots. And he made the coil pot as tall as he wanted then he smoothed the outside a lot so the outside looked completely smooth. Then he did the same thing for the other pot that's going left. Then slipped and scored it on to the big one. Then made another one and slipped and scored it onto the pot that's going left.
The pot is smooth on the outside, so he probably layered the coils than smoothed it out like some people do on the inside of their pots. Gracie Martin period 5
